Caution! New regulations on the way.
PFAS sampling is complicated. Our new PFAS kits can help.

January 2024

New PFAS-specific sampler kits from Teledyne ISCO help you address a widespread health concern quickly gaining urgency around the world. Regulatory agencies, the public, news sources and a broad spectrum of industries are concerned with health and environmental hazards related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS), and wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) will play a major and increasing role in detecting these substances. PFAS are “forever chemicals” and seemingly everywhere. WBS played a significant role in detecting and confining COVID during the height of the pandemic. Now, PFAS concerns are driving an ever-increasing use of WBS around the world.

This webinar covers:

  • The extreme care that must be taken during sampling, storage, and transportation of water samples due to very low MCL (Minimum Contamination Limit)
  • Best practice recommendations
  • Mandatory material selection for PFAS sampling
  • Care to be taken on-site while sampling
  • Type of blanks required for PFAS sampling; why, and how, to prepare them.
  • Items included in PFAS sampling kits developed by Teledyne ISCO and available from ISCO in early 2024, and how to use them.

Speakers: Kaushal Trivedi, Teledyne ISCO Water Platform business development manager. Kaushal is the leading global authority on sampling requirements for WBS and is recognized as such by major industries and organizations.

How to safely and accurately measure flow velocity in open channels

October 2023

Find out the pros and cons of a variety of area velocity measurement methods from across the industry. You’ll also learn which technology is best for different applications, with visuals providing clear details.

For example, a dependable velocity sensor that works above the flow to avoid hazardous conditions and succeeds where others fail will save you time and money. You make fewer trips to clean, replace or recalibrate a submerged instrument hampered by sediments in the wastewater or stormwater stream. The safety advantages alone can be considerable when the sensor must be placed in situations that are less than ideal..

Best Practices for Collecting Water & Wastewater Samples to Test for PFAS

June 2023

DescriptionPer- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known as “forever chemicals,” are a rapidly increasing health and environmental concern among industrial, municipal and regulatory audiences.

PFAS can be detected in trace amounts in water and wastewater, but obtaining an accurate assessment is challenging due to the ubiquitous nature of the chemicals and the ease with which samples may be contaminated.

Best practices must be followed to assure samples are not corrupted anywhere along the collection stream. Topics covered include:

  • PFAS, PFAS sources and health effects
  • EPA regulations: Limits, methods
  • Best practices for collecting PFAS samples:
    • Allowed material for items used for sampling.
    • Proper pre-site, at site and post-site procedures
    • How to store and transport the samples

Naughty or Nice? A critical decision: Choosing the right method for measuring the flowrate of industrial effluent

December 2022

Measuring the flowrate of industrial wastewater presents significant, unique challenges. Accuracy is imperative, whether the data is for billing confirmation, plant management, or regulatory compliance. That said, the effluent commonly contains solids, is chemically corrosive and may be at higher temperatures. Such instances make a submerged flowmeter impractical if not impossible to use. In some cases, even a flume is untenable due to build-up or blockages that create a constant need for costly maintenance and safety concerns.

So, what is the right choice for flowrate monitoring? A variety of sensor technologies are available, and choosing the right one can make or break you. During this 45-minute webinar, Teledyne ISCO Regional Manager Darrell Kuta, a flow measurement expert, will describe the differences and benefits between the sensor technologies and provide insight on which solution is best for you.

Wastewater Disease Surveillance, Pathogens and Public Health: What we’ve learned, best practices and what the future holds

November 2022

Wastewater Disease Surveillance (WDS) has grown in prevalence and importance over the past two-plus years of the COVID-19 pandemic, and its use is expanding worldwide to encompass other pathogens as well as opioids and other illegal drugs.

What do the present and future of WDS look like? As its use expands, it will be important to stay ahead of the learning curve. Municipalities, agencies and organizations that answer to the public will be asked what is being done at local levels to track and prevent illnesses before they reach pandemic levels. WDS is proving to be an important answer to that question.

Please join us for this 45-minute webinar, plus interactive Q&A, hosted by Rich Skradski, Northeast Regional Manager for Teledyne ISCO, and special guest presenter Dr. Jason Vogel, Director of the Oklahoma Water Survey and a Professor of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma.
